sewing for chickens

Sewing for my chickens,  I know this sounds super crazy but my little hens were missing feathers and had some sore spots on their backs.  The rooster, I only have one right now,  is a little rough loving on his women.  The chicken mating rituals are quite funny!  Most the time the rooster comes along side the hen and does this little dance where he dips his wing to the ground and dances around.   Once the hen is sufficiently impressed, he jumps on top of her and she lifts her little tail feathers so he can fertilize her eggs.   This seriously takes less then ten seconds, so if you blink, you just might miss the whole show.  Don't worry because he repeats this with the whole flock.

The project was quite fun.  I have lots of colorful material and I made a few checkerboard ones and then I made some with cute birdhouses.  It was somewhat of a learning curve because I made the elastic way too long on the first one.   The elastic slips over their little wings and the Apron/Saddle just sits nicely on their back.  You can also sew like a rounded cape to go over their top wings if there is bare skin.  Chickens will peck at the color red, so if you have a wounded chicken they could peck it to death.
